Jiming Ancient Post Station is one of the largest, best-preserved, and most complete ancient post stations in China, with unique features and significant historical, artistic, and scientific value. It's called a "living fossil" of postal and confidential archaeology. The history of Jiming Ancient Post Station can be traced back to the Yuan Dynasty, when Genghis Khan established a post station here during his westward campaigns. During the Ming Dynasty, Jiming Post Station was expanded to become a major station on the route from Xuanhua Prefecture to the capital, with important facilities such as the postmaster's office, granaries, guesthouses, and stables within the city walls.
This ancient post station, named after the mountain, not only carries a long history but also attracts countless tourists with its unique architectural style and rich cultural connotations. Its name comes from the post station's name, and the layout of its square city walls, the rammed earth and brick walls, and the evenly distributed corner towers and wall towers on the four corners all demonstrate the extraordinary charm of this ancient city. The east and west gates bear witness to the vicissitudes of history.
Jiming Ancient Post Station is roughly square, with rammed earth and brick walls. It measures 460 meters east-west and 480 meters north-south, with walls 11 meters high. Four corner towers and 26 wall towers are evenly distributed along the four walls, with two gates to the east and west. The layout of the buildings inside the city is rigorous, with the main street running through the east and west gates, lined with shops, indicating a prosperous commercial area. There are 13 Buddhist and Taoist temples within the city, such as the Taishan Temple, the Wenchang Pavilion, and the Caishen Temple. Of particular note are the He Family Courtyard and the Guesthouse Courtyard. The former was the postmaster's office, while the latter provided accommodation and meals for officials and postmen, both of which are well-preserved.
On June 25, 2001, Jiming Ancient Post Station was announced by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as a fifth batch of nationally key cultural relics protection units.
On November 12, 2005, Jiming Ancient Post Station was awarded the title of "China Historical and Cultural Village" by the Ministry of Construction and the State Administration of Cultural Heritage.
In October 2013, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage included Jiming Village in the list of pilot units for the protection and utilization of ancient villages.
